Detailed Job Description: What You’ll Be Doing
As a Pre-College High School Course Assistant (TA), you’ll work directly with instructors and students to support the delivery of on-campus coursework. You will be a central figure in facilitating learning, managing classroom logistics, and ensuring students receive the academic and emotional support they need.
Session Options:
- Session A (3 Weeks): June 30 – July 18, 2025
- Session B (3 Weeks): July 22 – August 8, 2025
- Session C (1 Week): August 11 – August 15, 2025
Course Times:
- 9:10–11:00 AM & 1:10–3:00 PM
- OR 11:10 AM–1:00 PM & 3:10–5:00 PM
Responsibilities: Supporting Student Success in Every Way
Pedagogical Responsibilities
- Lead or support breakout sessions and labs (as applicable)
- Evaluate student work and provide academic feedback
- Advise students and monitor academic progress
- Offer tutoring outside of scheduled class hours
- Occasionally deliver guest lectures on relevant topics
Logistical Responsibilities
- Take classroom attendance and monitor conduct
- Organize in-class activities, guest speakers, or field trips
- For online components: Attend training on tools like Zoom and CourseWorks
Qualifications and Skills Required
To be considered for the Pre-College High School Course Assistant role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Either a Bachelor’s/Graduate degree in a related field OR current enrollment in a relevant Columbia/Barnard undergraduate or graduate program
- Experience: Prior TA or tutoring experience preferred
- Skills:
- Strong subject-matter knowledge

- Comfort with classroom technology and academic tools
